What are nano brows?
Nano brows are a form of permanent makeup that uses an ultra-fine machine needle to place delicate, hair-like strokes into the skin. Each stroke is laid with precision to follow the natural direction and flow of your brow hair. The needle is a single, flexible point — far finer than what microblading uses — so each stroke can be drawn thin and tapered, exactly where it belongs. Microblading, by contrast, is done by hand with a small blade that makes tiny cuts in the skin; the machine method is gentler on the tissue, which means less trauma during the appointment and strokes that stay crisp instead of blurring over time.
Because the work is done with a machine, the strokes heal crisp and clean — and the technique suits a wide range of skin types, including oily or sensitive skin that doesn’t always hold microblading well. The pigment sits softly in the upper layers of the skin, so the healed result reads as real brow hair rather than makeup sitting on top of it.
Nano Combo Brows
Nano Combo Brows are the best of both worlds: fine nano strokes plus a little powder shading in between the strokes. The strokes give you the look of individual hairs, while the soft shading behind them adds fullness and depth.
This is the option I recommend when there isn’t much natural brow hair to work with. For someone with very little brow hair, the powder fills in behind the strokes so the brow looks fuller — but still soft and natural, never harsh or drawn-on.
Who nano brows are for
- Sparse or thinning brows that need fullness
- Brows that lost their shape from years of over-plucking
- Anyone who wants to wake up with their brows already done
- Anyone who wants a natural, hair-stroke look rather than a powdered makeup look
- Any skin type — even oily skin — and any age.
The process
1. Consult & design
We talk through what you want, then map and draw your brow shape together. Nothing starts until you love the design. We’ll look at your natural brow, your bone structure, and how your brows sit when your face is relaxed and when you smile — then measure and sketch a shape that’s balanced for your face, not a stencil. We also match a pigment color to your hair and skin tone, so the healed result blends in instead of standing out.
2. The session
After numbing, the nano strokes are placed with the machine. Plan on two to three hours door to door. A topical numbing cream goes on first and gets reapplied as we work, so most people find the session very manageable — more like light scratching than pain. The strokes are built up pass by pass, and we check symmetry along the way before calling it done.
3. The touch-up
Six to eight weeks later — once the brows have fully healed — we perfect the shape and color. The touch-up is included. This is where we fill in any spots that healed lighter than expected, adjust the color if needed, and make sure both brows are even. After that, a color refresh every 12 to 18 months keeps them looking their best.
What to Expect Afterwards
You’ll leave your appointment with an aftercare bag that has everything you need — including the ointment — so there’s nothing to buy or figure out on your own. Taking care of your brows while they heal is simple, and it’s worth doing well: good aftercare is what protects the pigment and keeps your healed result looking its best.
On day one, you’ll wash your brows three times. Start with clean hands (antibacterial soap), then use a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water, pat dry with a clean paper towel, and finish with a very thin layer of the ointment from your bag. From day two through day fourteen, keep up the same gentle routine twice a day — morning and night.
While you’re healing, a few things are off-limits: no Retin-A, glycolic acid, peroxide, or Neosporin on the brows, and don’t scrub, scratch, or pick at them. Avoid direct sun and tanning beds — wear SPF if you’re out in sunlight. Skip facials, swimming, whirlpools, saunas, steam rooms, and heavy sweating. Try not to get your brows wet in the shower for the full 14 days, and hold off on makeup on or around the brows until then too.
It sounds like a lot written down, but day to day it’s just a quick, gentle wash — and your aftercare bag has everything you need. Stick with the routine and let the healing happen; that’s what protects the pigment and gives you the best result. If anything looks or feels off while you’re healing, just reach out.
Here’s roughly how the healing goes, so nothing catches you off guard. Day 1, your brows look amazing and you’re in love — enjoy it. Over days 2–4 they’ll look darker than you expected, which is totally normal: the color always heals softer than it first appears.
Around days 5–7 you’ll notice light flaking or scabbing as the skin heals. Just let it happen on its own — don’t pick. Then days 8–10 can be the strange part: the brows can look like they’ve faded a lot, or even ‘disappeared.’ This is the stage where most people worry — but the pigment is still there, sitting under the healing skin. It’s doing exactly what it’s supposed to do.
From days 14–28 the color starts coming back, sometimes looking a little patchy or uneven while it settles — that’s normal too. And don’t worry — in the meantime, you can use a little brow makeup or powder, whatever you normally reach for, to fill in any uneven spots until we see you at your touch-up. And around day 42, after your touch-up, you’ll see the finished result: soft, natural, beautiful brows.
Frequently asked questions
How long do nano brows last?
Most clients enjoy their results for one to two years — everyone’s different. A color refresh every 12 to 18 months keeps them looking their best.
Does it hurt?
A topical numbing cream is applied before and during the session. Most clients describe it as mild pressure or a light scratching sensation — very manageable.
What’s the difference between nano brows and powder brows?
Nano brows are individual hair-like strokes for a natural, textured look. Powder brows give a soft, filled-in makeup look. If you want definition without anything looking drawn on, nano is the way to go — or combine both with a nano combo brow.
How long does the appointment take?
Plan for two to three hours, including the consult, brow mapping and design, numbing time, and the procedure.
Will they look natural?
That’s the whole point. Strokes follow your natural hair growth pattern, and the color is matched to you — so they blend with the brow hair you already have.
Do I really need the touch-up?
Yes. The touch-up is part of the process — it’s where we perfect the shape, fill any spots that healed lighter, and lock in the color. It’s included in your price.
