“I didn’t just learn this work. I needed it myself.”
Meet Dawn Marie
I’m Dawn Marie, the artist and owner behind Dawn Marie Studio in Richboro, Bucks County. I spent 22 years as a makeup artist first — and then, nine years ago, Permanent Makeup changed everything for me. I still take every single client personally. This is my name on the door, and I work like it.

It started with makeup
Right out of high school, I became a makeup artist, and I did it for 22 years. I had my own small business, Colors by Dawn — applying makeup and selling my own private-label line of cosmetics. Beauty wasn’t just my job. It was my whole world.
The night everything changed
One July night in 2018, I was in bed scrolling through Facebook when an ad popped up about microblading education. I had to ask myself — what is microblading? I was never a big fan of Permanent Makeup, but this was different. The hair strokes looked so natural. I was intrigued — honestly, almost obsessed. Within a few weeks I was in training.
The certification meant passing 11 levels, and I locked myself in my house practicing morning, noon, and night to master the technique. From there the training never stopped: manual shading, advanced classes, then tattoo removal — because women kept coming to me with old, faded brow tattoos and I wanted to help them too. When clients started asking about eyeliner and lips, I got certified in those instead of sending them somewhere else. To date, I hold more than 13 certifications, and I’ve traveled to Boca Raton, San Diego, New York, and Philadelphia to learn from some of the best artists in the world.
One small room
When I opened Dawn Marie Studio, it was one little 250-square-foot office — just me. I was scared to death about making the rent. I told myself, if I can just do a couple of clients a month, I can do this. I made my own advertising and promoted myself any way I could.
It worked. After a year I moved into a bigger space with three rooms, and after about three years there, I got to live my dream: I found a space in Richboro and built my studio from bare cement, exactly the way I had pictured it. That’s the studio you’ll visit today.
Why SMP means the most to me
A few years into Permanent Makeup, stress took a toll on my own health — I developed alopecia, and with it a large bald spot at the back of my head. It was obvious, and I was so self-conscious about it. One day I thought: if I can give women eyebrows when they have no brow hair, why can’t I do the same thing on a scalp?
That’s how I found Scalp Micropigmentation. I didn’t even know it existed. I researched it, traveled to train with one of the world’s best, and got certified. And of everything I do, SMP became my passion. I get tears in my studio every day I do it — from women who’ve been insecure for years, and from men, who I never realized were just as insecure about losing their hair. I work with clients who’ve lost hair to alopecia, to hormones, to stress, and to chemotherapy treatments where it never grew back. Changing that for someone is the most gratifying thing I have ever done.
A little personal
I’m a single parent to a beautiful son, and in 2020, during the Covid shutdown, I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. It has not stopped me. If anything, it’s given me even more reason to push through every single day — because I know what it’s like to look in the mirror and not feel like yourself, and I get to be the person who helps fix that.
How I run my studio
I’m a very honest person, and I bend over backwards for my clients. If someone left my studio unhappy, I wouldn’t sleep. I’m proud — proud and grateful — for every one of the 350+ five-star reviews my clients have left, because making people happy is the whole point of what I do — and I’ll keep doing it every single day.
